New Delhi: Months after a decline in daily Covid-19 cases worldwide in January, several countries have once again started witnessing a surge in daily infections with World Health Organisation (WHO) stating that there were more than 11 million new Coronavirus infections reported last week globally – about an 8% rise – and 43,000 new deaths.
Though the third wave of Coronavirus has started to subside in India without causing much harm, countries such as the United States, China, South Korea and others continue to report a very high number of cases.
According to WHO, the biggest increase in cases was seen in the Western Pacific and Africa, where infections rose by 29 per cent and 12 per cent, respectively.
Here’s a look at countries that are again witnessing a surge in Covid-19 cases:

The subvariant goes up to 39% of the total cases reported in cities such as New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
China banned most people from leaving a coronavirus-hit northeastern province and mobilized military reservists on Monday, as the fast-spreading stealth Omicron variant fuels the country’s biggest outbreak since the start of the pandemic two years ago.

According to French health authorities, the country reported as many as 18,853 new COVID-19 infections on Monday, a figure showing a week-on-week increase for the tenth consecutive time on the day France lifted most of the restrictions.
